For many of us, getting older is just another part of life. Whether we choose to embrace it or not. And as we age there is no denying it can get hard to do the tasks we used to be able to do without any help, especially around the house. Lets face it after all of those years of punching in and out for 40+ hours a week for what seems like an eternity, do we really want to waste anymore of our time mowing the lawn, getting ruffers over to the house to finally fix that leak, or even going down to the basement up and down those stairs over and over again no one wants to do that!
How do we know when it is time to start thinking about downsizing? Downsizing is certainly not an overnight type of thing, this takes weeks, months, or even years (depending on hoe much stuff you have) to plan out and figure out where you are going next. After all this is your home and why would you want to leave your home of 40+ years? Well, as you contemplate downsizing and move into a new home time is still ticking. No one gets younger as time goes on. Which means as the time goes on and on as you think and hesitate to leave, it will only get harder for you to come to the conclusion that you should have left a looooong time ago.
It all starts with some simple questions to get you started:
- Can you afford to stay in your current home for another 10-20 years?
- Are there any rooms in the home that haven’t or will not be occupied anytime soon?
- Is the yard easy to maintaine?
If you answered “no” to any of these questions then you might want to consider getting a change of scenery. Maybe take some time down where the weather is always warm and everything is in walking distance. Or maybe its time to go visit family and be closer with them.
whatever the case may be, downsizing isn’t the end of anything. Downsizing is the start of the second half of your life. Luckily for you Glendale Communities has properties all over WNY and NC to help provide you with the best housing options available!
